The Average Salary of a Surgical Technologist in Illinois

    • The median nationwide salary for a surgical technologist was $39,770 per year as of January 2011, as determined by Salary.com. The middle 50 percent of surgical technologists on the earnings scale received salaries of $36,290 to $43,950. The bottom 10 percent were making $33,125 and below, and the top 10 percent more than $47,740 per year.


    • Salaries for surgical technologists in Illinois vary by city. Those in Carbondale, for instance, were making about $36,110 in January 2011, while surgical technologists in Chicago had a median annual salary of $42,890. Surgical technologists in Champaign were earning a median salary of $37,730, in Springfield $38,170, and in Rockford $38,700. Excluding Chicago, where salaries are significantly higher, the middle 50 percent range for this group of cities was $32,950 to $42,770 per year. The top 10 percent were making more than $46,460 per year. In Chicago, the top 10 percent had salaries over $51,490.
