Can Leeks Repel Aphids?

About Aphids

  • Aphids are a very prolific variety of plant parasite, with more than 400 known species. They come in a variety of colors, including green, yellow, black and brown. They are generally pear-shaped, and most species live on the underside of leaves to avoid predators. They live by sucking the juices from your plants, causing the leaves to wither and curl. Ants eat the sweet "honeydew" excreted by the aphids, and often deliberately carry aphids to new plants in a form of deliberate husbandry. Anything that repels ants will have an effect on aphid populations.
