How to Calculate a Discount Off

    • 1). Divide the discount percent off by 100 to convert it to a decimal. For example, if a store offers a 40 percent discount, divide 40 by 100 to get 0.4.

    • 2). Multiply the discount as a decimal by the original price to find the percentage discount. For example, if the original price equals $120, multiply $120 by 0.4 to find the discount to be $48.

    • 3). Subtract the dollar amount of the discount from the original price to find the price after the discount is taken off. For example, subtract $48 from $120 to find the price after the discount is $72.
