Arco de El Carmen

At the end of Andador Hidalgo stands the Arco de El Carmen, a singular colonial construction. Erected in 1680 in the Moorish style, this served as a bell tower to the adjoining Templo de El Carmen church. The building formerly acted as a gateway to the Ciudad Real, as San Cristobal was formerly known, and has been adopted as a symbol of the city.
