How Replace a Crank Sensor on a 1996 GMC Sonoma

    • 1). Raise the front and rear of the truck with a jack. Support the truck with jack stands .

    • 2). Locate the CKP on the passenger side of the engine compartment near the back of the engine and just above the oil pan. Release the electrical connector lock tab with a fingernail or flat screwdriver and pull the connector off of the CKP.

    • 3). Remove the CKP sensor bolts with a wrench. Pull the sensor out of the engine block.

    • 4). Insert the new sensor into the engine block. Install the sensor bolts and torque them to 71 inch-pounds with a 1/4-inch torque wrench and socket. Push the electrical connector onto the CKP sensor until the connector snaps into place.

    • 5). Raise the truck with a jack and remove the jack stands. Lower the truck to the ground.
