How to Take a Governor Off a Moped
- 1). Remove the air filter/box. Your moped has an air box that restricts the amount of air flow going into the engine; removing this box will allow as much air as possible to go into the engine, resulting in better fuel performance and a faster top speed. The air box is located by the carburetor, usually held on by two screws; remove them with a screwdriver.
- 2). Remove the restrictive carburetor jet in the carburetor. Remove the carb, and strip it down to its bare-bones metal. When taking your carburetor apart, remember where everything goes so you can put it back together properly. Locate the gold screw with a hole in the head. This is the carburetor's jet, which restricts the amount of fuel going into the engine. Replace this with a larger jet, and put the carb back together.
- 3). Replace the stock muffler with an aftermarket one. Although this process can become tedious and difficult, a new muffler can increase both top speed and acceleration. When replacing the muffler, follow the instructions carefully to ensure a successful installation.
