How to Replace Gnome WM With WindowMaker

    • 1). Install Window Maker if necessary. On Ubuntu, open a new Terminal window and type the following:

      "sudo apt-get install wmaker"

Press "Enter." On Fedora, open a new Terminal window and type:

      "su -c 'yum install windowmaker'"

including the single quotes and press "Enter." Check your distribution documentation for alternative installation instructions.

    • 2). Open a Terminal window if necessary. Type the following:

"gconftool-2 --type string --set /desktop/gnome/session/required_components/windowmanager wmaker"

      Press "Enter."

    • 3). Log out of Gnome for the changes to take effect. To restore the original window manager, enter the same command and replace "wmaker" with "metacity."
