How to Get a Cheap Flight to Mauritius

Mauritius is a small island in the southwest of the Indian Ocean.
It is one of the most popular islands for tourists due to its warm climate, blue sea and white beaches.
This tropical paradise allows tourists to take part in water sports such as snorkelling, diving, sailing, windsurfing and parasailing.
It is home to one of the biggest game fishes, the blue marlin, and is a very popular location for big-game fishing from November to April.
Wahoo, tuna and even bull sharks can be caught.
Fishing competitions are held annually at Grande Rivière Noire in November and February.
For those intrigued by water life, there's the option to go scuba diving in coral gardens amidst tropical fish in the east at the Passe de Belle Mare and Passae de Trou d'Eau Douce in the south.
For those not into water sports, there's also other activities you can enjoy, such as Hiking in the Black River Gorges National Park and Lion Mountain.
There's also the Domaine du Chasseur for the hunters among you.
With all this available, you would expect the price to be expensive.
It is! However, you may be able to get a cheaper flight by following our 4 tips below.
Book at the right time, either early or very very late 2.
Travel in the off-peak periods 3.
Search online for the best deals 4.
Haggle 1 - Book at the right time, either early or very very late If you book early - early meaning about 9 months in advance - you can get bigger discounts as there are a lot of tickets available.
The travel agents don't know if all of them will sell and you can also get the cheaper seats.
Most travel agents have to buy the tickets beforehand.
They have an allocation of these tickets, some can go at a cheaper rate than others.
They will be happy to sell you the tickets early on to guarantee they make a profit, rather than lose money later on if any tickets are left over.
Alternatively, you can book late and get an even cheaper price.
This is risky if you really need to travel.
The travel agents have to get rid of their tickets - otherwise they lose their money! Air Mauritius tends to be the most popular airline for passengers.
Mauritius does not open its air space to cheaper airlines and charter flights as it only has one airport - the 'Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport'.
Hence, bagging a bargain is not easy.
Many passengers travel to France to get a cheaper flight via Corsairfly or Germany via Condor.
Still, you must book early or very very late.
2 - Travel in the off-peak periods It's better to book your flight when nobody else is on holiday, especially not in August or December.
Pick a time when it's not the peak periods, like November or February.
If you have children or even work on an academic place yourself, then try to leave one week before the holidays officially starts.
This way you can find slightly cheaper prices.
3 - Search online for the best deals There are some comparison websites that allow you to search for all the travel websites, travel agents and airlines to find the cheapest flight possible to Mauritius.
These websites do the hard work for you.
Instead of having to go to the Air Mauritius website or British Airways website etc.
, simply enter the dates you want to travel, the number of passengers and your chosen departure airport.
The site will do all the hard work for you to find the best deal possible, Good sites to check are airmauritius.
com, airfrance.
com, britishairways.
com and emirates.
4 - Haggle Once you've found the cheapest flight, print it and go to a local travel agent.
Be nice! Don't go barging in demanding a cheap price! Calmly tell them you've found a flight to Mauritius for a certain price and you wanted to check if they can go cheaper before buying.
If you're lucky they'll tell you they can match it or go lower.
If not, don't worry, try another or just book online.
At least you tried and there's no harm in that!
