Top Buys: Toyota’S Best Gas Mileage Cars

Toyota is known for its fuel-efficient and reliable vehicles and for manufacturing the world's first mass-produced hybrid car, the Prius. The Prius, especially its latest generation releases, joins the lineup of Toyota's best gas mileage cars. Since the launch of the Prius, Toyota has gone on to develop more environmentally-friendly hybrid versions of some of its existing models. We've put together a list of these Toyota models with the best fuel economy€"hybrid and traditional engine alike€"including models from the two other brands under Toyota: Lexus and Scion.

Prius Perfect
The overall best model when it comes to getting the most mileage out of a single gallon of gasoline is the Prius lineup, starting with the Prius c, which gets 50 average mpg. Introduced to the Japanese market in 1997 and three years later to the US market, the Prius remains the steadfast leader in fuel economy. The 2012 Prius has a 1.8-lter, 4-cylinder engine generating 134 hp and accelerates to sixty miles per hour in 9.8 seconds. Considered as a mid-size sedan, it can comfortably seat five, perfect for a small family, or the solo eco-conscious driver.

City and Highway
In many vehicle reviews, you may see a difference between the city and the highway mpg rating of cars. Why is this so? Well, cars manage their fuel differently in the city, where there is constant stopping and starting (especially if your city is littered with traffic lights!). If you will be driving mainly in the city, you should buy a car that uses the least amount of fuel during stopping, starting, and at idle. Toyota's best gas mileage cars for this purpose are the following: Toyota Prius c Two, Toyota Prius v Three, Toyota Camry Hybrid XLE, Toyota Prius Four, Lexus CT 200h Premium, Toyota Avalon Hybrid Limited, Lexus ES300h, and the Scion iQ. On the highway, the same vehicles also make the list, but this time with the addition of the Toyota Camry LE and the Toyota Yaris LE hatchback. The Yaris is also known as the Vitz in other markets, and its aerodynamic shape no doubt helped in its high fuel economy, reducing drag on the highway.

Earth-friendly Luxury
You may want to drive a classy car, but that doesn't mean you don't care for the environment€"not at all, especially if the Lexus CT 200h Hybrid is your ride of choice. It has a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that produces up to 134 hp and can go from zero to sixty mph in 9.8 seconds. The Lexus CT 200h Hybrid has a 43 mpg rating in the city and 40 mpg on the highway for a combined mileage rating of 42 mpg, making it one of Toyota's best gas mileage cars. Who says you can't have both fuel economy and luxury in a car?

Another classy model you may want to consider is the Camry Hybrid, which has a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 200 hp and can zoom to sixty miles per hour in 7.7 seconds. America's favorite family car has just gotten better at fuel economy, running an average of 41 miles on a single gallon. The technology behind Toyota's best gas mileage cars (the hybrid ones at least) is the company's Hybrid Synergy Drive, which will soon be incorporated in more hybrid models in the future. They're definitely something to look forward to!
