How to Add USB 2 to Windows 98

    • 1). Shut down the Windows 98 operating system, then disconnect all the cables connected to the system.

    • 2). Remove the Phillips screws alongside the back of the computer, then slide the computer case open.

    • 3). Locate an open PCI card slot along the back side of the motherboard (the large computer circuit board). Slide the USB 2.0 PCI card into the open slot, then push the levers down on each side of the card to lock it into place.

    • 4). Close the computer up, tighten the Phillips screws back into place and plug the cables back into the computer. Power on the computer and wait for the Windows 98 operating system to load.

    • 5). Insert the driver installation CD, then double-click the "My Computer" icon and select the "CD" drive. Choose "Install" and the installation wizard loads onto the screen. Follow the prompts of the installation wizard to finish the setup process of your new USB 2.0 connection ports.
