Hofstra University Graduate Programs

      Hofstra University is an attractive destination for graduate students in the northeast. This private college in Hempstead, New York is only 30 minutes away from New York City by train.     Accounting

    • The Department of Accounting, Taxation and Legal Studies in Business houses two graduate programs in accounting. The Master of Science program requires 30 credit hours completed through courses on accounting information systems and advanced auditing. Students can also pursue a 63-credit Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting. Every graduate accounting student must complete noncredit workshops in statistics, library resources and other topics in the first year. The department accepts applications from graduate accounting students for the Kuchner Endowed Scholarship.

    Journalism

    • The Department of Journalism, Media Studies and Public Relations runs a Master of Arts program in journalism. This 36-credit graduate program features required courses in advanced copy editing and journalism ethics. Journalism students choose specializations in sports, science and business after completing their core courses. The department allows graduate students to work as editors, photographers and reporters at Pulse Magazine, which is distributed throughout the campus. The Harold E. Yuker Reference Library holds collections of newspapers, magazines and journals useful to graduate journalism students.

    Creative Arts Therapy

    • The Department of Counseling, Research, Special Education and Rehabilitation features a Master of Arts degree in creative arts therapy. Hofstra University accommodates working students with a part-time option as well as courses during winter and summer sessions. This graduate program adheres to requirements by the Art Therapy Credentials Board to simplify certification for graduating students. The Creative Arts Therapy Club of Hofstra brings together faculty and staff for seminars as well as public events. Graduate students meet with experts in the field and present their research at the department's yearly art therapy conference.

    Documentary Studies and Production

    • The Department of Radio, Television and Film operates a Master of Fine Arts program in documentary studies and production. This 55-credit graduate program requires coursework in documentaries for radio and documentary research methods. Graduate students must also complete 12 credits of thesis research before presenting their final project to faculty members. Hofstra University stores more than 10,000 films and media products in its Film and Media Library. This library also provides video editing and duplicating services to aspiring documentarians.
