Updated October 27, 2014.
I have been thinking about Breast Cancer Awareness Month for some time now and I knew that I wanted to do something special. I know that so many organizations and companies and business have really stepped up to the plate to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research and treatment and for every single effort, I am so very grateful. I know that this is also the time of year when breast cancer survivors are invited to and acknowledged at events everywhere.
But, my dream was for something different; something that is enduring and will not disappear after the last pink ribbon is put away at the end of October. Thus was born the “Wall of Inspiration” that acknowledges those with breast cancer who have inspired others in their lives.
Every single person who has dealt with breast cancer has a personal story and each is as original and different as we are as individual people. We have read those stories and marveled at what so many people have had to overcome. We have also learned about the true spirit inside of so many who did everything in their fight for life but sadly were taken by this awful disease. But, I realized that so many people have shared with me about how those they know have dealt with breast cancer and have inspired them by their struggles, the things that they have had to overcome during their battles and yet how they have remained so strong and so positive and so much wanted to help others. These people have shared how they have personally been inspired to treat others more lovingly, help others in any way they can and to push themselves to be the best that they can be.
I wanted you to know about these inspirers from those who have been inspired.
Therefore, I have created what is called “The Wall of Inspiration.” I put out a call to those who have been inspired by someone with breast cancer and asked them to tell us about their heroes/heroines. I wanted others to know about how those fighting breast cancers are helping others in ways that we may never have imagined and I was not disappointed. I knew from my own experience what a difference it made for me when I met someone who inspired me and I knew what it was like when someone shared with me how I may have helped and inspired them whether it was with their own cancer journey or with a new inspiration regarding how they wanted to live their lives.
I have already received a number of stories from those who have chosen to memorialize those family members, friends, associates and acquaintances in stories that will touch your heart. You can just feel the love and emotions that are so vividly portrayed in the various ways that have been utilized to tell these stories. They touch your heart and express a level of human spirit that is seldom seen. But, we are not finished. I know that there are so many stories out there of people who have dealt with breast cancer who have made a difference in the life of someone else who they touched and I don’t want to stop until I have received every single one of those stories. It is easy to submit a story and photos or videos or whatever you choose and have that special person be acknowledged and memorialized on the wall forever. Just go to the site and tell us about that special person that you know in whatever manner you choose. I am really hoping that we can reach people across the world with representation as we know that breast cancer and its impact on everyone has no boundaries. Please share your story! Your story is important and together we can all make a huge difference for those that we know who are dealing with breast cancer and those who just might need some inspiration in their own lives.
